What Causes a Wet Basement?
Understanding the cause is essential before selecting the right repair. Different sources of moisture require different solutions — and treating the wrong problem wastes money while the real issue continues to worsen.
- Hydrostatic pressure: when soil around the foundation becomes saturated, water is pushed against the foundation wall with significant force. This pressure forces water through any crack, joint, or porous section of the wall
- Foundation cracks: poured concrete foundations develop shrinkage cracks as the concrete cures. Block wall foundations can fail at mortar joints. Both allow direct water infiltration
